Split panes
Split a tab right or down as deep as you like, move focus by keyboard, zoom one pane, and resize or equalize.
Panes are detached cards with rounded corners and a gap between them. The focused pane gets an accent border, and each has a header with its title and split, zoom and close buttons.
Split and focus
| Action | Keys |
|---|---|
| Split right | ⌘D |
| Split down | ⌘⇧D |
| Focus pane | ⌘⌥ + arrow |
| Zoom pane | ⌘⇧↩ |
| Equalize panes | ⌘⌃= |
| Close pane | ⌘W |
You can also click a pane to focus it.
Resize
Drag the gap between two panes to resize them. Double-click the gap to equalize.
Zoom
⌘⇧↩ makes the focused pane fill the tab. The other panes keep running in the background. Press it again to restore the layout.
Did you know? The status bar shows the pane count when a tab is split, and the grid size of the focused pane such as
112×28. That is handy when a program asks for your terminal size.
Splits are restored on relaunch and after updates.
